AllMusic [1]

Coming Around Again is the 13th studio album by the American singer-songwriter Carly Simon, released by Arista Records, on April thirteen, 1987.

It is the first of many albums Simon recorded for Arista. The title track, forth with "Itsy Bitsy Spider", was written for and featured in the 1986 motion-picture show Heartburn. It peaked at No. 18 on the US Billboard Hot 100, becoming Simon's twelfth Height 40 hitting in the United States. Additionally, information technology was a Top 10 hit in the Uk. The album itself reached No. 25 in both the U.s. and the Britain. It was certified Argent by the BPI in September 1987, and Platinum by the RIAA in early on 1988.[2] It has since sold almost two meg copies in the The states.

Shortly later the anthology's release, a live outdoor concert besides entitled Carly Simon – Coming Around Again was recorded in June 1987 on Martha'south Vineyard, Massachusetts for HBO, and later on released on video and DVD as Live From Martha'southward Vineyard.[3] On a pier in front of an invited audience, Simon and her band performed eight of the album's xi songs, along with some of her greatest hits. The concert was as well released as a live anthology in 1988 entitled Greatest Hits Alive.

On October 27, 2017, Hot Shot Records released a 30th Anniversary palatial edition of the anthology. The two disc fix includes six bonus tracks, including a 12" extended remix of the single "Give Me All Night", and the Oscar winning "Allow the River Run", along with a second disc consisting of Simon'south aforementioned Greatest Hits Live album, retitled for this set as Carly in Concert – Coming Effectually Again. An in-depth interview with Simon is as well included in the albums booklet.[four]

Critical reception [edit]

Writing for Rolling Stone, Rob Hoerburger gave a positive review of the album and wrote, "Coming Around Once again is a potent reminder of how refreshing a diversion Carly Simon can be".[5]

People was also positive, "Simon remains, even later all this emotional turmoil, perhaps the most interesting of women pop singers. This album, proves she is still captivating."[half dozen]

Stephen Holden, writing for The New York Times, stated, "Coming Effectually Again, the latest and ane of the strongest chapters in a growing catalogue, embodies everything that the 41-year-onetime vocaliser-songwriter does all-time. Of all the confessional singer-songwriters who emerged out of the sixty'south counterculture to confide their personal feelings in recorded pop song cycles, she has been one of only a handful to sustain a major label recording career of such duration. And of that scattering, she has stayed the closest to the personal confessional way."[7]
